Allison grew up on the east side of Wauwatosa, and now is a musician and piano teacher who lives on the west side of Tosa with her husband Nick. She enjoys listening to live music, attending local arts events, baking and good wine.
It's true... vegetarian here! And I am just so thrilled with the restaurant selection in our town.
It seems as though every new restaurant that's found a home here in the last five or so years is really giving us vegetarians, etc. some great options. I must say that it was a recent visit or two to the new Bel Air Cantina that inspired this post (I thought I had to drive to Riverwest for some decent soy chorizo... not anymore!). I am not used to so many choices - unless I'm at Cafe Manna in Brookfield, where the entire menu is vegetarian. It was quite an experience!
I also enjoy that Bel Air Cantina has vegan options. I've got friends who swing that way, and let's just say I've always had to meet them in their neck of the woods for dinners out. However, it was a very happy discovery to find out that Maxie's has delectable tofu barbecue and jambalaya options, even fit for vegans. And sometimes you can find some good vegan dishes at Juniper 61. But with Bel Air, it's a definite. Watch out, Tosa - the vegans may start flocking our way!
Blue's Egg is of course another great Tosa "veggie-friendly" spot - but breakfast and lunch only (frickin' amazingly creative and tasty breakfast and lunch dishes though!). There are other local hang-outs with variety on their menus, I'm sure, that I'm forgetting to mention. These are my big ones, though.
Now, can we start spreading the veggie-friendly-restaurant love to the west side of Tosa? That way should I be held captive on the west side by zoo interchange construction I wouldn't have to head into *shudder* Brookfield.
P.S. If you are reading this and you know me or may meet me some time, I dare you to ask me about how I went off of meat. That weekend before I went veg was a carnage-fest of dead animals. Priceless.
