Gas Pains
Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.
Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.
Friday Morning Music
If you happen to be old like me you would remember this local group and their first album.
Released in the spring of 1986 - by T-Bone Burnett via Slash Records - the rendition of this tune comes to you via Austin, Texas.
Guess The Critter
Never plant an elderberry bush before you plan for how big they'll actually get.
Or how they'll spread by root suckers.
The Magic Curb - Fifth Senate District Version
It always strikes me as amusing at how purposefully Girlfriend leads the way when she is going on a 'city walk'.
Initially anyhow.
Camp Meat
If I am not mistaken the term Camp Meat refers to the alleged practice of shooting a deer, skipping the step of registering it and butchering it for general camp consumption.
That practice is forbidden here. Nonetheless, since I believe I am the interim camp cook I fret over how we're going to feed ourselves here at camp. I've been puttering in the kitchen this morning assembling a couple of pheasant pot pies. I deboned a pair of of Dakota birds along with garden squash, potatoes, peas and more.
Position In The Food Chain

Yesterday afternoon I was observing all of the birds in this planting of prairie grass.
A Model of Efficiency
For a spell I was concerned that the day job and some other projects had put a serious crimp on fall hunting opportunities.
An early gun hunt with Lawyer, Mennonite and Braumeister dispelled that notion.
Friday Morning Music
It is the close of the work week people.
How about one of my favorite John Prine tunes...
Gas Pains Talks With The Candidates For The Fifth Senate Seat
For a spell it was looking like this wasn't going to happen.
I have been here, there and everywhere on the road lately. Oh man...on the road can be tiresome.
Sullivan and Vukmir - The Budget
The State of Wisconsin’s budget seems a frightful mess to me with all of the accounting tricks and sleight-of-hand measures seemingly exhausted. The next Governor and Legislature are going to have their hands-full in balancing the State’s books. This is a multi-part question.
Do you expect that cuts to the budget will have to occur?
Sullivan and Vukmir - The Big Fat Middle
Depending upon a particular issue you might conclude that I lean either liberal or conservative. It depends. Sometimes I support Republicans and sometimes I support Democratic Party candidates. There are a significant number of voters who make-up this group of moderates that I have characterized as The Big Fat Middle. This is a multi-part question.
Presuming that you already have the support of your base – do you need the support of moderates to win the upcoming election?
Sullivan and Vukmir - The Campaign
Regarding modern-day political campaigns if there was one thing you could change what would it be?
I happen to have my own views about how to run an election campaign and I was particularly curious about having an opportunity to find out from Vukmir and Sullivan what they felt about this subject and what, if anything, they would change if given the opportunity.
Friday Morning Music
If you are old like me you might appreciate this old tale regarding this old artist.
My high school senior class trip destination was Miami, Florida. It included a cruise to and from the Bahamas.

Share with us one tidbit about yourself that hardly anyone has heard before.
