The Frugal Gardener

I'm a Tosa resident and gardener for 40 years who loves to save money. I'm the daughter of Maryalice Koehne, an award- winning garden writer. Gardening is holistic and can be inexpensive, let me tell you the deals I've found.

Discoveries From the Last Two Weeks

The past two weeks have been blissfully busy!  Pizzeria Piccolo's Flowers conainers are planted and I'm nearing completion on the interior of the lounge at The Hamilton.  This is a great new wedding venue, worth a gander:

I purchased my first one but  I've seen them at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.  Very good value now!

Being an impatient, plant junkie I bought one the first year it was introduced.  I've had to move mine 3 times in as many years.  I believe I've found the perfect spot.

  • Tip of the day, Lowe's will match Home Depot ( or anyone's) price and give you a 10% discount for not being the lowest! Bought 6, 5-6 foot Arborvitae for $17.98 a piece!

  • Aldi, I picked up a white Knockout rose for $7.99, gladiola, caladium and dahlia bulbs for a steal. I also noted that they have some 10-12 foot trees. Be careful when selecting. Make sure the trees are fully budded out now!

  • New favorite hang out: Old German Beer Hall, Hofbrauhaus on Old World Third street. $12.00 liter of Maibach until they run out ( end of summer?!!)   We hit is opening night for $6.00 a liter and it took 2 hours to drink it.

Wunderschoen! Live music too. Second time this month we've had a rocking good time- last night The Berliners?
