Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.
Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.
I got some good news last week.
Remember the deer camp sensation from last year?
Braumeister and I try to shoot our bows once a week throughout the year. Usually Dart Video over at West Town Archery.
It keeps us and our equipment tuned and on-target and allows for making the drawing of a bow, acquiring a target and taking an appropriate shot with confidence. Most importantly - without hesitation.
It is the start of the weekend people!
Chrissie Hynde says to crank-up the volume and fetch your dancing shoes...
The Snowy Owl is one rare bird.
In my entire life I have only seen this bird twice. Once as a kid and again a few years ago.
In keeping with this week's wildlife theme who can tell me what critter did this to one of my swamp white oaks?
I'll post the answer Thursday afternoon.
Elvis C. suggests that you crank-up the volume on the company work station, forward your calls to voice mail and indulge in some Van Morrison...
Evidence of that fact is was the appearance of the first Red-winged Blackbird a few days ago.
This morning I spied a couple of these fellas...
Last week I cozied-up to warming glow of my laptop and while enjoying a Guinness composed a perfectly good St. Patrick's Day post that was all set for publication this morning.
I had plenty of work to do up north so I figured - Write a blog post or two, Tom. And put them in the can for next week. Be smart about your time.
Here I am - underground - west of Highway 45 and somewhere below Wisconsin Lutheran College's practice field. This tunnel is as big as a subway tube. It is soaking wet with sucking goo everywhere and noisy. It stinks a bit of diesel too. But I'm used to that.
What a way to spend a sunny Monday afternoon. I love being underground.
Been cleaning-out nest boxes.
Forty seven of them to be exact.
Nesting season is just around the corner and I want to be sure that the boxes have been cleaned of all of the old nesting material, any dead birds or other junk.
Some of the boxes have been occupied over the winter and up to the present time by these guys.
Hank Williams popularized this song and now it's taken to the next level.
It is the start of the weekend people. Skip out of work and mellow-out to some awesome Norah Jones...
Do kids take shop class anymore?
I had a conversation with a pal of mine about this very same subject last week and we were basically convinced that a generation of children have been born into the digital entertainment age and are completely incapable of hanging a door or cabinet, plumbing a toilet or faucet, wiring a switch or even building a bird house.
